VETERANS WILL NO LONGER PAY COUNTY
PARK FEES ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Legislator Jon Cooper's Bill Is Passed by County Legislature

The Suffolk County Legislature on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution sponsored by Jon Cooper (D-Huntington) which will permanently exempt veterans from paying county park fees on Memorial Day weekends.

"I'm thrilled, Cooper said today." We as legislators should look to lessen the burden on our veterans whenever possible. Giving veterans a break on Memorial Day weekend is just the right thing to do."

Cooper's bill will modify the fee schedule of the Suffolk County Department of Parks to prohibit the County from charging veterans for the enjoyment of any county park from Friday through Monday of Memorial Day weekends, beginning this year. The bill pertains to entrance fees, and does not include golf or concessions fees.

Veterans looking to take advantage of the exemption will need to provide a Veterans Administration Card and proof of Suffolk County residency.
