Legislature Approves Cooper’s Bill Instituting E-mail Bid Announcement System for Suffolk County
On June 28th, the Suffolk County Legislature unanimously approved a bill
authored by Legislator Jon Cooper (D-Huntington) that will establish an
E-mail Bid Announcement System for county bid offerings. The system will
allow Suffolk County to notify all registered potential bidders of any bid
announcements or RFP opportunities through e-mail.
The E-mail Bid Announcement System will maximize the number of potential
bidders, thus creating a more competitive market in the bidding process.
It is also expected to reduce or even eliminate the need for newspaper advertising
and mailing costs of formal bid announcements, which could lead to substantial
cost savings by the county.
“We must always be on the lookout for new and creative ways to operate
government in the most cost-effective manner possible,” Cooper said. “I
am confident that this system will provide Suffolk taxpayers with
more bang for their buck.”
A web page will also
be created that will post all public announcements regarding bid offerings
and will
allow future potential bidders to register
online. A link from the home page of the county’s website will be
established in order to provide easier access to the bid announcement
web page.
